Lazaro Soto Obituary

Lazaro Soto’s sun rose on May 10, 1938 and peacefully set on November 28, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the people he cherished most.

Born in Havana, Cuba, to Jose Isabel Soto and Dominga Collazo, Lazaro grew up as one of ten children. It was an upbringing that helped shape his lifelong devotion to caring for others. With many sisters and a brother to look after, he naturally embraced a life of generosity, protection, and service. As a young man, he met the love of his life, the beautiful Regla Izquierdo. On October 17, 1969, she became his bride. Together they welcomed four children: Jose Lazaro Soto, Alexis Soto Sr., Gladys Soto, and Eddy Juan Soto. Lazaro endured the heartbreaking loss of his two eldest sons, Jose Lazaro on May 2, 1970, and Alexis Sr. on October 26, 1995. He carried their memories tenderly throughout his life.

In October of 1980, Lazaro, Regla, and their children emigrated to the United States in search of greater opportunities. He began building a new life in Minneapolis, Minnesota, navigating the challenges of a foreign land while steadfastly providing for his family. Later, the family moved west to Los Angeles, California, where Lazaro found his calling in the hotel service industry. With humility and diligence, he served for over 28 years until his retirement in 2008.

Lazaro devoted himself to being the loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend that so many knew and adored. Generous to a fault, he opened his home and his heart to anyone in need. He could always be found with a tool within reach. He was often working with his hands, undertaking a new trade everyday. Whether it be a mechanic fixing someone’s car free of charge, or a carpenter, a plumber, or even a doctor when the time called; if someone needed assistance he never hesitated to lend a hardworking hand. He will certainly be remembered for all of the joy and laughter he brought to those who knew him.

Lazaro’s memory will be treasured by his beloved wife, Regla Soto Izquierdo; his children, Gladys Soto and Eddy Juan Soto; a bonus daughter, Mary C Fernandez; eight grandchildren, Alexis Soto Jr., Jasmine V. Soto-Ganas, Simy A. Soto, Edyna M. Soto, Andre J. Clansy, Kaylyn S. Soto-Maddox, Anaiah J. Clansy, Aaliyah J. Clansy; five great-grandchildren, Noah T. Ganas, Micah A. Ganas, Nayeli M. Ganas, Atlas A. Maddox, Esperanza R. Soto; his sister, Carmen Soto Collazo; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He will always be remembered for his unwavering love, boundless generosity, and the light he brought into the lives of those who loved him.
